Maya Bird

Maya is a kind of bird which can be found everywhere in the Philippine archipelago. It used to be the country’s National Bird until the Philippine Eagle was declared the National Bird in 1995. The legend tells that Maya birds are best kept outdoors because keeping them in cages shortened their lives. These freedom loving birds was compared to the freedom loving spirit of Filipinos who, even though weak and small in size, were able to gain and sustain their freedom though their history.
