If just lying down on your pillow leaves you wide-eyed, you may have spent too many sleepless nights tossing and turning, which has taught your body that the bed is not a place to snooze.
People with insomnia think they should spend more time in bed. But that can make it worse. Six hours of continuous sleep is much more restorative than 8 or 9 fragmented hours.
So go to bed later or get up earlier. If you often awaken during the night, get up until you feel sleepy again. In a week or two you may be back on track.
